Art & Design A Level: Textiles

Details Textiles design programmes encourage interdisciplinary opportunities as well as developing a specialisation in one area. Areas of study includes woven, embroidered and printed textiles, and mixed media.

AS Modules

AR1 Coursework Portfolio – 30%. Coursework based on themes developed from personal starting points. Critical contextual understanding demonstrated through preparatory studies, sketch book and final outcomes. Internally assessed and externally moderated in June.
AR2 Controlled assignment – 20%. Externally set at start of February when the preparation period will begin. There will be 8 hours examination time to produce the outcome. Internally assessed and externally moderated in June.

Advanced (the above plus the following A LEVEL units)

AR3 Personal Investigation – 30%. Coursework unit based on a theme chosen by the candidate. Students understanding will be demonstrated through integrated images, sketch books, and outcomes with a written element of a minimum of 1,000 words. Internally assessed and externally moderated in June.
AR4 Controlled Assignment – 20%. Externally set, timed supervised assignment. Preparation time will begin at the start of February. Internally assessed and externally moderated in June.
Requirements/skills for entry onto the course
All students should have at least grade C at GCSE Textiles. Career Opportunities Art, Craft and Design are currently recognised as one of the most successful areas of British talent. There are various employment pathways for a career in Textiles. Qualifications can be used for entry to courses at BA or BSc level. Careers include: Fashion design and manufacture, textile design, surface design and woven textiles, theatre and costume design , museum work restoring and preserving textiles, design history of textiles/dress , fashion journalist, interior design, teaching.
